A funny and heartwarming play that is a love letter to everyone who remembers the family road trip. Leaving Iowa takes us on two very different road trips: One that embraces idealism, optimism, and the roadside attraction and one of discovery and reconciliation.
Theatre can show us things about ourselves and others that we never knew were there. It can stagger us with clarity and revelation, forge and change relationships and identities. Over the course of a six-week adult acting class, a teacher and her four students experience the tremendous transformative power of the theatre - games that seem silly, but end up bringing down guards, healing old wounds, and opening some new ones.
Showtimers proudly stands as a center for human creativity and artistic expression. We honor the labor and intention that artists put into their work and do not permit unauthorized edits to dialogue or music in any production where the work is not in the public domain. We also agree to provide accurate attribution at all times. While we respect the role technology has played in advancing the performing arts, we believe in placing the work of human artists above content generated by artificial intelligence, and as such, we will not stage AI-generated plays, nor will we, or any representative working with Showtimers, use Generative AI to design artwork for posters or marketing materials. We will also strive to avoid the use of AI-generated elements in our productions; any such usage will be disclosed to our patrons.
